I like to watch movies which you probably know by now. So it was a boring Monday evening and I was looking for a new movie to watch. I’ve read about the movie In secret before but never really gave it a chance. It seemed like a boring storyline played somewhere in the 1800s. And even though I like ‘history’ movies especially when it has Tom Felton in it, I didn’t feel like watching it. But that changed and I’m glad it did.
In secret tells the story of a young woman Thérèse Raquin back in 1867. She lost her mother at a young age and her father couldn’t take care of her, so he took her to live with her aunt (Madame Raquin) and sickly cousin (Camille Raquin) in Vernon. When Thérèse gets older, Madame Raquin tells her to marry her cousin. They move to Paris and she meets Camille’s friend from when he was a kid Laurent LeClaire. She feels attracted to him and he to her but are forced to do everything in secret because she is still married. Their desire for each other became too strong and realized they can’t be together unless Camille is out of the picture. Camille dies in accident, or so it seems, but the new couple have now to deal with the guilt for what they did.
In secret is an erotic thriller written by Charlie Stratton based on Émile Zola’s novel Thérèse Raquin and , in my opinion, the very first film where Elizabeth Olsen made a name of her own and not being known as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s little sister anymore. The movie is truly amazing and really takes you deep in the couple’s affair and their story till the very end. It’s a story you can relate to even if you can chose who’d you marry. I think every girl had a boy or girl in their life that they just can’t have and gets so attracted to this person they’ll do everything for him/her. And for all the Harry Potter fans, Tom Felton isn’t the only Potter actor who was cast, also Shirley Henderson aka Moaning Myrtle is part of the cast.
